The café "Baratti & Milano" in Turin was founded by the confectioners Ferdinando Baratti and Edoardo Milano. It is a symbol of intellectual life in this city during the 19th century. Established in 1875 before the unification of Italy, it became one of the most famous chocolate and confectionery houses in the world. It would become the official supplier to the royal House of Savoy.
The Brun d'Arre Factories (1740-1940), whose "Bas Lys" production was awarded at the World's Fairs, employed over 1,200 workers benefiting from social programs ahead of their time.
