Bitter liqueur. In 1885, Ambroise Labounoux founded a distillery in Montaignac-Saint-Hippolyte, in his native Upper Corrèze, to produce a gentian liqueur. The Labounoux family sourced gentian root from the mountains around the village of Salers.
