Description:
Jeanne Granier and Réjane, two famous and particularly elegant actresses, gaze with admiration and envy at a dress on a mannequin. "In this poster, Cappiello features Jeanne Granier and Réjane. The two actresses admiring a dress with longing could very well have stepped out of a sketch made during a theatrical performance or any occasion bringing them together. The tempting dress could be replaced by any other object—there is no specific advertising staging in this poster. The sales pitch is of another nature: it is neither about surprising nor charming, but rather about suggesting through a more subtle psychological process. Granier and Réjane were the two most Parisian actresses of their time. For the provinces, which occasionally welcomed them during tours, they embodied chic, elegance, and this poster suggests to provincial women a way to identify with the image of the fashionable Parisienne by shopping at this store. The star, even today and because she is the symbol of a society, a way of life, and a fashion, serves as an advertising vehicle for every branch of economic activity."
