"You ask for my opinion on our poster, perhaps for the thousandth time—I have just looked at it and cannot help but think that I will look at it many more times with the same admiring devotion. Cappiello exceeded our expectations. Never have French suppleness and grace been better captured than by the undulating lines of this body and the delightful smile of this woman’s face, happy to have reconciled the demands of fashion with the prescriptions of medicine. This, gentlemen, is truly the work of a master. I frankly and conscientiously consider our poster to be one of the finest ever produced by the artist’s hand, and so I cannot resist the pleasure of sharing the opinion of a collector who, upon requesting a poster from us, wrote verbatim: 'It is one of the most graceful posters published in a long time.' As for the printing, though I am rather a layman in this matter, I gladly declare that it is entirely to the credit of your firm, and it is no small merit to conscientiously reproduce an artist’s work—I would even say it is more than a merit, it is a talent. We do not hesitate to declare that the commercial impact of our poster was very significant. It contributed to the popularization of our brand and secured it the place it deserved among so many others, both from a technical and a hygienic standpoint." M. Giry, Malfille, Giry & Tramasset successors. 192, rue Ste. Catherine, Bordeaux, June 17, 1903, to Mr. Vercasson [in Cappiello. Caricatures Posters Paintings. Grand Palais 1981]
