Remark:
This model dates from 1926 and is listed as “Tomatoes - Italy” in the small notebook written by Cappiello listing the works he produced. It was modified after his death with the agreement of his son Jean Cappiello, as evidenced by the label affixed to the back of the copy belonging to the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (https://catalogue.cappiello.fr/produit/barbier-dauphin/). Two tin cans on the right and those at the bottom left, the lower letters “Barbier Dauphin” “Le fin du fin” and perhaps the word ‘conserves’ were added to the model by collage. The word “d'après” was added to the signature on the lithograph. On the model, the signature predates these modifications.
