Description:
In 1544, Charles V invaded the kingdom of France and laid siege to Saint-Dizier. The inhabitants blocked the invader's advance for more than a month, allowing Francis I to regain his footing and save Paris. In gratitude, Francis I authorized the town to bear his arms. It is in this context, revisited by Cappiello, that Francis I visits the cellar of the Bière du Fort-Carré to taste a very fine beer. This beer, drunk with a champagne flute rather than a tankard, is fit for a king. It fills him with satisfaction. From this poster, Cappiello would create two menus. The first was drawn in 1907 and printed around 1912, the second dates from 1930.
