Subject
The transatlantic liner Giuseppe Verdi, launched in 1915 in the port of Genoa, was built in the shipyards of the Transatlantica Italiana Società Anonima di Navigazione. The same company acquired and rebuilt the Colombia Hotel in Genoa between 1921 and 1928. The poster obviously advertises the hotel but also the transatlantic shipping company.
An initial sketch only focused on the hotel.

Description:
A cruise passenger on the deck of a liner looks at an advertisement for the Colombia Hotel in Genoa. In the preliminary sketch (see black and white photo), Cappiello mainly highlighted the hotel and barely the ship.
